     Joana's Story

Hi, my name is Joana Antonio and I am high school senior student from Los Angeles, California.

The reasons why I made MedLang stem from my love for medicine and learning languages. That led me to research how those two ideas I love so much, connected. After doing thorough research, I discovered how difficult it was to find reliable resources, and in a variety of languages available. Within those research papers and articles I found how prominent issues like language barriers have indirectly and directly impacted different fields such as the sciences and the medical field. Personally, within my own community I also noticed that people weren't well informed of current events and/or did not know what to do because of how misinterpreted the information was. All this motivated me to create MedLang.

With MedLang, I'm determined to provide credible information about medicine in a variety of languages in one place, inspire other people to learn new languages, and help create a diverse community online who can communicate to one another about topics they love-- medicine or not.

Personally, I'm fluent in English and Spanish. To be quite honest, there will be times when I butcher my Spanish, but I always put my energy to learn from it! Plus, I also have my trusted partner Marisol to help me through my Spanish and with MedLang!

Currently, I'm also learning ASL and Japanese.

    Marisol's Story

Hello world, I'm Marisol Chavez and I am a high school senior student from Los Angeles, California. I was brought onto this project by my fellow partner Joana. Being able to give back to our community is one of my greatest passions and this is a project I strongly believe can help with that. Even if it reaches and helps one person, I believe that already is impact.

A few facts about me are I love dogs, I aspire to travel one day (preferably Greece, Iceland, or the Faroe Islands), I enjoy painting, drawing and love listening to music. I can't wait to see what happens with this project and hopefully it turns out the way we hope. :)
